Volunteers African Dawn Wildlife Sanctuary

If your passion is helping save Endangered Wildlife in South Africa this is the project for you. Located near Port Elizabeth 25 km from Jeffrey's Bay we care for abandoned and injured animals, we also breed endangered species for future generation to enjoy on the Animal Sanctuary in the malaria Free Eastern Cape of South Africa

Wildlife Sanctuary Volunteers South Africa

THE PROJECT:
This Project assists the Animal Rehabilitation Centre between Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay with the daily care and funding to feed and care for stranded and injured animals. This project has a true need for volunteers to support with time and funding. We have introduced a breeding program for endangered species like, Cheetah, Blue Duiker, Servels and many other species to follow with the support from volunteers and sponsors.

ANIMALS:
The Centre boasts in excess of forty species of wildlife. Cheetah, Giraffe, Zebra, Impala, Blesbok, Duiker, Bushbuck, Monkeys, etc. and a huge selection of bird species. Some animals that cant be free roaming are kept in enclosures, most of the larger animals roam freely on the reserve.

THE PROGRAM:
Working as a volunteer you will be involved in many aspects of conservation and wildlife care.

  • When we do have new born animals you will have the rare opportunity of caring for them this means being responsible for the young's well being and upbringing.

  • Giving the young comfort, feeding them with milk formula from a bottle. Replacing their mother in all ways.

  • Cuddling and just sitting with young animals help them grow strong. Interacting with the public extends to assisting our staff in training and conservation awareness.

  • Assisting with upkeep of the reserve such as maintenance, removal and identification of alien vegetation etc.

  • Upkeep and improvement of animal enclosures.

  • Preparing of food and cleaning of enclosures.

Other volunteer tasks may include :

  • Conservation educational on fauna and flora in the region as well as identification of mammals, wildlife spoor, animal dung etc.

  • Observing and studying the animals and their behaviour, this includes sleeping out in the game areas in camps.

  • Doing survival training practically on the reserve.

  • Building new habitats for animals.

  • Conducting walking safaris and Mountain Bike Trails on the reserve.

  • Please note if you join the project for less than one month not all duties and activities mentioned may be included in the program
