Located between Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay we care for abandoned and injured animals, we
also breed endangered species for future generation to enjoy
on this Animal Sanctuary.
Wildlife
Rehabilitation ProjectThis Project is
run on African Dawn assisting the Animal
Rehabilitation Centre between Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay with
the daily care and funding to feed and care for stranded and injured
animals. This project was identified as having a true need for
volunteers to support with time and funding. We have introduced a
breeding program for endangered species like, Cheetah, Blue Duiker,
Servels and many other species to follow with the support from
volunteers and sponsors.

Introduction:
You will be collected from Port Elizabeth Airport by
the Project leader and be transported to the Breeding Centre some
70 kilometres from the city.
Location:
The centre is located between Port
Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay on lush green roaming hills.
The Centre boasts in excess of forty species of
Wildlife. Cheetah, Giraffe, Zebra, Impala, Blesbok, Duiker,
Bushbuck, Monkeys, etc. and a selection of bird species.

Volunteer Program
-
Working as a
volunteer you will be involved in many aspects of conservation
and wildlife care.
-
When we do have
new born animals you will have the rare opportunity of caring for them
this means being responsible for the young's well being and
upbringing.
-
Giving the
young
comfort, feeding them with milk formula from a bottle.
Replacing their mother in all ways.
-
Food
preparation for long term animal and bird residents here at
the sanctuary.
-
Hand rearing
of orphaned wildlife, including monkeys, lynx and serval
kittens and just about anything else that needs it!
-
Daily tidying
and cleaning of enclosures.
-
Helping to
build new spacious natural enclosures and maintaining the
present ones.
-
Cuddling and
just sitting with young animals help them grow strong. Interacting with the public extends to
assisting our staff in training and conservation awareness.

Other volunteer
tasks may include :
-
Conservation
educational on fauna and flora in the region as well as
identification of mammals, wildlife spoor, animal dung etc.
-
Assisting with
upkeep of the small reserve such as maintenance, removal
and identification of alien vegetation etc.
-
Upkeep and
improvement of animal enclosures.
-
Observing and
studying the animals and their behaviour, this includes sleeping
out in the game areas in camps.
-
Checking reserve and boundaries for snares.
-
Preparing of food and cleaning of enclosures.
-
Doing survival
training practically on the reserve.
-
Building new
habitats for animals.
-
Conducting walking
safaris and Mountain Bike Trails on the reserve.
-
Local community
upliftment projects 1-2 days per week helping the local
community improve their living conditions, painting schools,
creating play areas for the kids, ect.
-
teaching the local
community kids the importance of conservation.

Accommodation
Accommodation is in Log Cabins
located in the Game Area, meaning there are no fences between
you and the game roaming the reserve.
Accommodation ranges from dorms,
doubles to singles.
The Lodge has its own kitchen,
bar, bbq and entertainment are for your enjoyment.

Excursions
While at the project the volunteers regularly go on
trips the several attraction in the surrounding areas in the Eastern and
Western Cape.
These excursions are for the volunteers own cost, the
volunteers club in to hire a car or all share the cost in one of our
vehicles.

(Accommodation upgrades to single and double rooms available)
Sponsorship for Endangered Species Projects and sponsoring of
purchasing additional animals for breeding project.
One Weekend in Jeffreys Bay, including Surf Lesson, accommodation and meals when
staying for a min of 4 weeks at the project.
